Types of CBD: Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate

With CBD’s recent explosion onto the wellness scene, it can get confusing figuring out what’s what. There are so many different types of CBD available, a lot of them with different benefits and “promises” and even being used in different ways. It would probably be helpful to know what they’re all about and what might work best for you.

Types of CBD

When it comes to CBD, not all are created equally. There are three different types of CBD: full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate. All three are extracted and produced in a variety of matters and can yield different results. Here’s what sets all three apart and how you can determine which CBD may be best for you.

Full-spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD is just as it sounds; it contains the full spectrum of compounds like phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids naturally occurring in the hemp plant. That’s because full-spectrum CBD oil is extracted from the entire plant. Yep, that includes the stem, flowers, leaves, and roots.

This type of CBD is popular because of its ability to produce what’s known as the entourage effect, The belief is that by taking using the whole plant, compounds like CBD (cannabidiol), CBN (cannabinol), CBG (cannabigerol), 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and more work synergistically to yield an optimal or therapeutic effect.

With the passage of the Farm Bill in 2018, the production of hemp became legal with an amount of 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) being acceptable in the plant. THC is the intoxicating compound that leads to feeling “high” or euphoric after use. While 0.3% cannot get you high, this is something to consider if you’re worried about failing a drug test.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate contains nothing but pure CBD and is a great solution for people who want to explore the benefits of CBD without experiencing possible effects from any of the other compounds.

To get CBD in its purest form, the plant goes through a rigorous extraction process to ensure there are no traces of other compounds or any plant material. What’s left is a crystalline, white, fine powdery substance that’s 99% CBD and easily dissolves into your breakfast smoothie or morning cup of Joe.

Broad-spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD is the type of CBD we use for our CBD products. Consider it the middle child to CBD isolate and full-spectrum CBD.

Containing 0% THC, broad-spectrum CBD starts off as full-spectrum, containing all the compounds and properties found naturally in full-spectrum CBD. It then undergoes further refining to remove all traces of THC.

Unlike CBD isolate, it’s not as processed and a majority of the naturally-occurring compounds found in the hemp plant are still present. Even without THC, you’re still able to experience the entourage effect with a broad-spectrum CBD. This type of CBD is another good option for you if THC and drug tests are a concern.

How to know which is right for you.

CBD isolate is a good choice to consider for people with certain health sensitivities. You’re still able to get the specific benefits of CBD without having to worry about effects from other compounds found in the hemp plant.

We’re obviously a little biased and recommend broad-spectrum because it’s the best of both worlds in our opinion. Plus, we do it best.

What’s most important, no matter which CBD you end up choosing, is using quality CBD products and getting them from reputable brands. LBC CBD manufactures the highest quality CBD beauty and wellness products on the market. Our goal is to offer non-toxic alternative methods for health and beauty and improve lives.
